Alan’s Paranormal Cabin

When I first heard about Lisa Barretta’s book, CONSCIOUS INK, I did not hesitate to learn more about it. Though some may pause to decide wether this will fit within the paradigm of their show, I admit that I reacted subjectively and excitedly because I have finally decided on getting my first tattoo ever. In fact, I’ve been considering getting a tattoo for close to 20 years now!

We’ve all seen books and sites that explain the meaning of symbols. We’ve also seen and read about the meaning of symbols in dreams. But with tattoos, symbols break beyond an interpretation of the mind’s self-awareness and into three and four dimensions. A tattoo permeates the physical realm – the body. It breaks skin and it alters physical appearance. It does not float through a momentary state, a fading dream or even reoccurring dream. It’s quite literally embedded in you. And whatever power or significance you give it – it will have. Nor is it a painting or moving pictures or sound , for it follows you everywhere you go.

Ultimately I think that’s why I’ve hesitated and waited for the right vision to flood my mind before getting my first tattoo. Until now it was never clear really. Ideas had come and gone but nothing that stuck with me. My first tattoo, that I’m now very close to having done, is imbued with the right meaning for me. I know myself enough now to answer the question: “If I could only ever have one tattoo for my entire life, what would it be?”
It’s thrilling, actually, to feel confident in my decision and begin to get myself prepared. After reading Lisa’s book, I am all the more grateful because there are two more factors in my getting inked that I had not considered. Of course I would look for a clean and professional tattoo shop and artist. Now, though, I am taking that a step further and seeking an artist who I think has a kindred conception and metaphysical interpretation off life as myself. Before, I was looking only at their work to decide if they had the right style for what I am envisioning. But I as I look at artists work I am also looking to see if their art (or other non-tattoo art) resonates with me. So that I can feel their spirituality through their art.

The second is simpler. I was planning on just black ink, but after reviewing Lisa’s explanations of how color and placement have an effect on the interaction between the chakras and subtle spirit body, I’m considering a different color. Again, the timing of Lisa’s work being shown to me fills me with all the more excitement as I feel all the more sure that I am ready to be tattooed. I guess I’ll have to post a follow up to this once I get it!
