Get up at least 90 minutes before sunrise and look eastward (in the direction of sunrise). The moon and Venus help guide you to Mercury and Mars.

Headline #4: Mystery Fanged Sea Creature Washes Up On Texas Beach After Hurricane Harvey

Synopsis: A walk along Texas City beach took an unexpected turn for Preeti Desai when she stumbled over a creature that normally swims well below the surface washed ashore during Hurricane Harvey. Desai posted a picture of the fanged sea creature on Twitter in the hope that someone could identify it: “Okay, biology twitter, what the heck is this?? Found on a beach in Texas City, TX,” she wrote on September 6th. One respondent, Adam Summers, a professor at the University of Washington and the School of Aquatic and Fisheries Sciences, said that the creature was identifiable due to the “remnant of skin coloration, the body and head shape, the teeth and the shape of the jaw they are in.”

Headline #5: Large Human-Shaped Bat Twice Seen Within An Hour

Synopsis: Lon Strickler: “The first sighting was at approximately 11AM CT today (Sunday September 10, 2017). The witness ‘RC’ stated that he and a friend were near the intersection of S. Greenwood Avenue and E. 78th St. in Avalon Park in Chicago. As he looked up, he observed a dark object slowing flying across the sky in a northern direction. At first he thought it may have been a jet, but realized that it was moving too slow and that the wings were not that of an aircraft. After watching the gliding object, he determined that it was a human-shaped being with wings that resembled those of a large bat. There was no sound. He was not aware of the previous sightings, and was given my contact information by another person. I was contacted about an hour after his sighting.”

Headline #6: Egypt Archaeologists Unearth Goldsmith’s Tomb Near Luxor

Synopsis: Egyptian archaeologists have discovered a tomb of a prominent goldsmith who lived more than 3,000 years ago, unearthing statues, mummies and jewellery in the latest major find near the Nile city of Luxor. Egypt’s Minister of Antiquities Khaled Al-Anani said on Saturday the tomb dated back to Egypt’s 18th dynasty New Kingdom era—around 15th century BC. “The work did not finish yet and we’re continuing and working to find more objects and more tombs,” he told Reuters at the site. The site includes a courtyard and niche where a statue of the goldsmith Amenemhat and his wife and one of his sons, as well as two burial shafts, the ministry said.

Headline #7: First Female Viking Warrior Proved

Synopsis: In the 1880s, a fascinating grave was discovered in the Swedish town of Birka. Chock full of weapons, gaming equipment, and two horses, the 10th century AD burial was assumed to be that of a powerful male Viking warrior. But the skeleton had some traits that suggested the person was female. A new study has revealed through DNA analysis that this powerful warrior was indeed a Viking woman. The idea of a female Viking warrior is not new. Historical records from the early Middle Ages mention women fighting alongside men and artistic works depict this as well.

Headline #8: Paleontologist Stares Down Critics in Her Hunt For ‘Dinosaur Proteins’

Synopsis: Northern Montana—The first day of Mary Schweitzer’s 2017 dinosaur hunt isn’t going well. The team has been searching under the high summer sun without success for the fossil-rich strata that braid through the arid rangeland here. Then, toward sundown, the aging Chevy Suburban in which she and four colleagues are riding erupts in a brief, poltergeist-like spectacle—with door locks jumping up and down and multiple dashboard warning lights flashing simultaneously. Finally, the car gives up the ghost and stops completely.
