Headline #1: Harvest Moon on September 5th
Synopsis: Tonight – September 5, 2017 – look for the full-looking moon to beam in the east at dusk. It’ll climb highest up for the night around midnight and sit low in west at dawn September 6. For us in the Americas, the moon turns full on this night. In other time zones, full moon falls closer to the night of September 6. Either way, some will call this September 2017 full moon the Northern Hemisphere’s Harvest Moon. Others will say the 2017 Harvest Moon comes in October.
Headline #2: Asteroid Florence Found To Have Two Moons
Synopsis:Asteroid 3122 Florence – largest asteroid to pass so close in over a century – swept past Earth on September 1, 2017. As it did so, astronomers using radar found that it is orbited by two tiny moons! Radar images of asteroid 3122 Florence obtained at the 70-meter antenna at NASA’s Goldstone Deep Space Communications Complex between August 29 and September 1 have revealed that the asteroid has two small moons, and also confirmed that main asteroid Florence is about 4.5 km (2.8 miles) in size. Florence is only the third triple asteroid known in the near-Earth population out of more than 16,400 that have been discovered to date. All three near-Earth asteroid triples have been discovered with radar observations and Florence is the first seen since two moons were discovered around asteroid 1994 CC in June 2009.
Headline #3: NASA’s Hubble Detects Signs of Water on Potentially Habitable TRAPPIST-1 Planets
Synopsis: Several of the planets orbiting a nearby star may harbor “substantial amounts” of water, astronomers say, including three planets situated in a habitable part of the star’s solar system. The star—called TRAPPIST-1—is an ultracool dwarf star 40 light years away. It is orbited by seven Earth-size planets, according to the Hubble Space Telescope. Following the discovery of the planets in February, an international team of astronomers used the telescope’s imaging spectrograph to measure the amount of ultraviolet radiation received by individual planets in the system. As lower-energy ultraviolet radiation warms a planet, it breaks up water molecules into hydrogen and oxygen. These can then escape as higher-energy radiation heats the upper atmosphere of a planet.
Headline #4: Two Hovering Red, White, Blue/Red Flashing Lights
Synopsis: I see them every night in Lewis County, Washington state including tonight, when I happened to see two moving around in the night sky flashing red, white, and blue mostly; I tried to capture pictures and videos on my phone, but they weren’t too clear; one object seemed to hover over the town of Centralia, while the other hovered above Chehalis–I sometimes see them throughout the day as well.
Headline #5: Deep Royal Blue Ball Emits Blue Laser Beams
Synopsis: I saw a deep royal blue ball with lighter blue laser beams being emitted; the ball was first observed in the western sky about 45 to 50 degrees off of the horizon; there were no sounds associated with the blue ball, whether stationary or in motion–this orb made improbable movements which had very short acceleration and deceleration intervals as if inertia was inhibited.
Headline #6: Black Triangle Sighting in Vaughn, Washington
Synopsis: My husband was driving our minivan, I was in the front passenger seat and our 8 year-old was seated behind in the driver’s side; we were driving home just after sunset and as we began to drive down the hill that overlooks the forested area we live in, I noticed a red pulsating light above our street–I became angry, assuming a cell tower had been installed and I kept my eye on the light until it was obscured by trees, hoping to figure out the exact location.
Headline #7: UFO Sighting in Bourne, Massachusetts
Synopsis: I was on a Cape Cod Canal cruise with my wife and while looking starboard to the northeast I noticed a slow moving yellow/orange light–I saw it did not have a red or green nor a white strobe as commonly seen on aircraft, so I thought I would snap a couple of pictures with my iPhone; soon after, it dimmed a bit, got bright again then blinked out completely; a lady who was standing next to me at the rail was also looking in that direction so I asked her “Did you see that?” she replied “Yes, what happened to it!?” and I said “It’s gone!”–we were both kind of shocked but laughed, because we knew we had just seen something unusual.
